Folklore- and folk dance group Kolumats welcomes you!
Folklore- and folk dance group Kolumats acts at Rannu Culture Centre, Tartumaa, Estonia (186 km from Tallinn, 36 km from Tartu, 11 km from Elva, nearby Lake Võrtsjärv). 12 pairs at age 25-60 years dance in the group. The group met first in spring of 1985, and Küllike Lõhmus was the instructor of the group for 16 years. Since 2002, Lea Kurvits (dance) and Liis Jaamets (folklore) are the instructors.
Our repertoire consists of Estonian national dances. The concert programme is three-part: author dances (20 min), local folklore programme (25 min) and ballroom dances (30 min). Every part can be performed separately.
Our “visiting card” is our own dance compiled by our first supervisor Küllike Lõhmus: Polka of Kolumats.
The name of the group, Simple-minded Jumbo, comes from a popular song where a man coming from a far small forest village Kolumats arrives to town to see how beautiful life there is. Rannu where from we come is rather an agricultural region than a far forest village, but we carry with us benevolent and humorous attitude which could be affiliated to the hero of this popular song - Kolumats.
